The 5 Best Goldsmiths in Newcastle for Bespoke Creations and Repairs
Mum’s friends—Karen and Jeff—are gearing up for a vow renewal. Yes, you read that right, as if they’re getting married all over again.
Karen, bless her, says their original rings were “just too 90s”—and now they’re after something classic, unique, and with that perfect touch of sparkle. Because anything less would be a crime.
So, I’ve scouted the top goldsmiths in Newcastle because Karen’s standards are sky-high—and let me say, I’ve found some real talent.
These jewellers craft royal-worthy pieces, from exquisite rings to unmatched antique silverware, blending history with elegance.
And I know why you’re here—so here’s the list. Take it from me, these beauties are posh enough to make your vision come true!
How much do goldsmith pieces cost in Newcastle?
Goldsmith pieces in Newcastle can range significantly in price depending on the item and materials used. For example, you can find 9ct gold pendants priced around £200.
Many goldsmiths offer personalised services, allowing you to tailor the design or even choose the metal type and stone to fit your preferences, providing a custom experience to suit your specific needs.

Great service
“Great Service! Took in some random shaped semi precious stones, asked if a pendant could be fashioned, got lots of help and ideas from the assistant and was absolutely delighted with the result. At the same time an old ring which had lost its stone was repaired. Could not be more pleased, thoroughly recommend this jewellery business.”

2. John Martin Douglas Master Goldsmith

Address: 14 Shakespeare St
Phone: +44 191 230 1747
Business Hours:
- Monday to Sunday: 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM
For jewellery that’s anything but ordinary, John Martin Douglas Master Goldsmith is the place to be. With over 18 years of experience, their craftsmanship is second to none—each piece is individually hand-crafted from the finest materials.
From classic gold and platinum wedding rings to bold, eye-catching pendants and dress rings, their designs suit all tastes. It’s a treasure trove of timeless classics and modern showstoppers.
And If your jewellery needs a little TLC, their repair service is excellent, with prices starting at just £8.95. Rhodium plating is also available to restore your pieces to their former glory.
One small drawback: if you order online and decide to cancel within 14 days, you’ll have to cover the return postage. It’s a bit inconvenient and a stretch of the wallet, so it pays to take some time before making a purchase.
Expert craftsmanship and no-nonsense approach
“I found John through a local search engine and wanted to support a small local business. I showed him an inexpertly (by me) drawn picture of what I wanted – heavy, oval, silver bangle – and he made it, no fuss and I love it. I loved it so much that I then asked him to make me a ring in exactly the same style and he did – I love that too. Both are incredibly simple designs but they look great because of their simplicity. John’s Geordie charm, no-nonsense approach and expert craftsmanship mean that not only will I return to his studio when I want something else made, but I’ve been telling all my friends about him too. Nice guy, talented jeweller, what more could you want?”

Beautifully crafted ring
“Looking for something for my wife for our ten year anniversary, I stumbled on JMD after wondering around Newcastle looking for jewelers. After much discussion I ended up asking him to make an eternity ring. I was a little worried as everything to that point had been a bit informal (a few sketches in a notebook, examples from catalogs, etc) but I needn’t have worried as the ring was exquisite and my wife was thrilled with it. I’m not one for jewelry but this really was beautiful, I’ve seen nothing in the high street chains that comes close to it for the money and I have the satisfaction that it is a complete one off. If I ever need a jeweler for anything in future Johnny will be my first port of call.”

3. Amblergem Jewellers Ltd

Address: Unit 79, Alley 2 Grainger Market
Phone: +44 191 232 3555
Business Hours:
- Monday to Saturday: 10:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- Sunday: Closed
For a jeweller that feels like home, head to Amblergem Jewellers Ltd. This family-owned shop offers a personal touch you won’t find in large chains, with a stunning range of jewellery to explore in-store.
Paul, the in-house goldsmith with 34 years of experience, handles most repairs himself. This means affordable prices and quicker turnarounds—no long waits like at high street jewellers.
However, they may not handle larger, complex industrial-scale repairs like some bigger jewellers can. If you need heavy-duty restoration, you might need to look elsewhere.
Despite this, my mum would agree that their custom-piece service is impressive. You can bring in reference photos, and they’ll turn your ideas into a bespoke masterpiece that’s truly unique to you.
Lovely staff and efficient service
“I visited Amblergem Jewellers to get my pearl necklace repaired. The lady working there was absolutely lovely chatting away to me and my friend. She assured me my necklace would be fixed and told me the cost, it was a very reasonable price. I picked it up a few days later and the repair was perfect! I actually spotted a bracelet in the shop that matched my necklace so I bought that from them! It was a very efficient experience, I would definitely recommend coming here to fix your jewellery or even buy some! Thank you Amblergem Jewellers.”

Superb customer service
“Visited this jeweller for the first time yesterday. (31/08/2024) I required a ring to be down sized, several jewellers had already refused to work on the ring as it was hollow.
I couldn’t use the ring as it was, subsequently they were able to complete the work, with an excellent result. Where others wouldn’t, these guys were willing and able. Superb friendly customer service. Highly recommend. Thanks!!!

4. Reid & Sons

Address: 21 Blackett St
Phone: +44 191 232 1366
Business Hours:
- Monday to Saturday: 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM
- Sunday: 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM
If you’re after a jeweller with centuries of experience, Reid & Sons has you covered. Established in 1778, their rich heritage and exceptional craftsmanship have truly stood the test of time.
Their team knows their stuff, blending traditional techniques with modern expertise, so you can trust the quality of every piece.
Reid & Sons offers a collection of stunning antique sterling silver knife rests and fine tea caddies—ideal for those who appreciate vintage charm or are looking for the perfect gift.
They also have Lindisfarne-style sterling silver dishes and Art Deco condiment sets. These pieces ooze class and history, and they’re sure to impress, just as they did with me.
However, do keep in mind that one of their sterling silver items can set you back around £1,483. While the vintage appeal justifies the price, it’s not the best choice if you’re after something more budget-friendly.
Above and beyond service
“My now fiancée, chose an amazing engagement ring from this store. The service from Andrew was above and beyond. That made us return as well as the fabulous ring!! We have since returned for wedding rings. Laura has been absolutley fantastic. She has ensured we both get exactly what we wanted and has been more than patient, friendly and accommodating. Thank you very much for a fabulous service. Laura has already shown us our next purchase 😜”

Brilliant, courteous, and helpful staff
“I couldn’t get the item I required at Mappin & Webb’s website so I booked an Appointment in the Newcastle store and I’m so glad I did, I initially was contacted by telephone by a very pleasant girl called Lauren and when I arrived at Reid & Sons I was welcomed by Angel who dealt with my appointment, Angel was absolutely brilliant, very courteous, helpful and professional. I’m sure she is an asset to Reid & Sons and my visit there couldn’t have gone any better, hopefully my Wife will love the item I choose for her and the next time I’m looking for any Jewellery Reid & Sons will be my first stop.”

5. Northern Goldsmiths Co.

Address: 1 Blackett St
Phone: +44 191 232 2264
Business Hours:
- Monday to Saturday: 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM
- Sunday: 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Northern Goldsmiths Co. offers some real gems in their collection, with pieces that exude timeless elegance, from sterling silver pint mugs to collectible teaspoons.
However, they’re not really focused on jewellery for various occasions, so if you’re after engagement rings or wedding bands, this may not be the place for you.
Regardless, their craftsmanship is top-notch, with each item radiating vintage charm—especially their Art Deco sterling silver and George V pieces, which truly stand out.
And if you’re into rare, high-quality silverware, their selection of antique pieces is hard to beat. It’s where history meets elegance.
Absolutely lovely staff
“Helped resize my EDS ring splints after several other places turned us down with hardly a conversation. Absolutely lovely staff, even though it was a bit of a journey figuring out exactly how to size things down for us. Rings came out great, and on the expected timeline. Massive thank you to everyone, gutted I had to dip out before I could thank everyone personally. :)”
